Premier Sarawak Unveils Strategic MoU For Hydrogen Production Advancements


KUCHING, 2 Feb - In a momentous occasion at the Grand Margerita Hotel, Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, emphasized the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between SEDC Energy and Gallois Group of Companies.

"This MOU is not a mere formality; it is a testament to our collective dedication to advancing chemical technology components for hydrogen production. It aligns with the policy of our state government, aiming to transform Sarawak into a hub for hydrogen production," declared Premier Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari.

During the MOU signing ceremony, Premier Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari highlighted, "The primary focus of this MOU is the advancement of chemical tech components for hydrogen production. Our shared goal is to make substantial contributions to Sarawak's economic development, emphasizing hydrogen as a strategic sector crucial for our sustainable future."

SEDC Energy, known for its pioneering ventures in sustainable energy, including Crude Algae Oil, Suitable Aviation Fuel, Biomass, hydrogen supply, downstream business, and green mobility solutions, takes a leading role in this collaboration.

Gallois Group of Companies, represented by Gallois New Energy Materials (M), Malaysia (GNEM), a newly established entity, brings a wealth of expertise to the forefront. Focused on processing, manufacturing, wholesaling, and retailing graphite-related products, GNEM aims to establish a Graphite Manufacturing Plant at Samalaju Industrial Park, Bintulu, positioning Sarawak as a key player in the graphite industry.

Gallois, renowned for its mining and refining operations in Madagascar, stands as a powerhouse in graphite production. Their natural specialties and high-quality graphite make them the ideal partner for Sarawak's growing hydrogen sector.

The Premier concluded, "This partnership transcends the signing of an MOU; it signifies the forging of a collaboration that extends beyond paperwork. Our joint efforts will explore opportunities in the graphite business, marking a significant stride toward diversifying our energy initiatives. SEDC Energy's equity acquisition in GNEM solidifies our shared commitment to the success of this venture."
